Abstract

This research was aimed at analyzing challenges faced by two English teachers and their strategies to organize group works in EFL classes at a private school in distric Purwokerto in the academic year of 2017/2018. This study was descriptive study. The data gathering was conducted by observation and interview with two teachers. The result of both observation and interview presented three challenges faced by the teachers. First, the usage of the native language. Teachers often used Bahasa to ease the students understand the instruction in group works. Second, teacher‟s monitor. Monitoring the students‟ work is considered difficult for the teacher to do. This is in line with the third challenge, that is students‟ work. They did not furnish any effort to be active during the group work. Then, the teachers‟ way in organizing group works are model the technique and divide the class into groups. Revealing challenges of employing group works will ease the teacher to prepare and maintain then well.
