Abstract

This study aimed to describe ability of mathematical problem solving and responsibility of students at MTsN 4 Kebumen in terms of learning achievement. This study used qualitative research using the Miles and Huberman model including data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. The subjects in this study were students of class VIII D. They were grouped into 3 based on learning achievement, namely students' groups of high, medium and low learning achievement. Three respondents were selected from each group using purposive sampling technique. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that 1). Students in high groups have been able to apply all existing problem solving steps and high responsibilities. 2) Students in the middle group have been able to implement steps to understand the problem, develop problem-solving strategies and implement problem-solving strategies with high responsibilities. 3) Students in the low group were only able to implement steps to understand problem and formulate a problem solving strategy with the responsibility; their ability and responsibility were still low.
