Abstract

This research aimed to describe students' mathematical problem solving ability viewed from their emotional quotient at SMP Negeri 4 Purwanegara Banjarnegara on the material of linear equation and inequation of onevariable. This qualitative research used Miles and Huberman model that consisted of data reduction, datapresentation, and verification/conclusion drawing. The subject of the research was the students of class VII A. The researcher used purposive sampling technique to select the research subject. Then, students were grouped intothree categories i.e. students with high, medium, and low emotional quotient. Three students were selected fromeach group to be the research samples. Data collection methods used in this research were questionaire, test,interview, and documentation. The result of the research showed that students with high emotional quotient, couldperform the first, the second, the third, and the fourth indicator well and they have not fully mastered the fifth indicator. Students with medium emotional quotient could perform the first, the second, and the third indicator wellemotionalquotient could not master the indicators of mathematical problem solving yet.
