Abstract

The utilization of excessive chemical herbicide results pollution. Thus, bio-herbicide is needed to control weeds. The allelo-chemistry compound in spiny amaranth and purslane that best affected on lettuce’s growth and crop, as well as controlling the weeds’ population. This study was conducted in experimental field of Agriculture Faculty Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto from March to May 2017. The materials used in making bio-herbicide were the leaves of spiny amaranth and purslane with different concentration (0, 25, 50, and 75%) added by water. The design of experiment used complete randomized design with 7 treatments: A0 (no treatment/control), A1 (the extract of spiny amaranth with 25% concentration), A2 (the extract of spiny amaranth with 50% concentration), A3 (the extract of spiny amaranth with 75% concentration), A4 (purslane extract with 25% concentration), A5 (purslane extract with 50% concentration), and A6 (purslane extract with 75% concentration) which applied 4 replications. The results showed that the use of spiny amaranth and purslane extract did not significantly affect to the growth and crop of lettuce, and did not control the weeds population. Moreover, the extract usage with different concentration (0, 25, 50, and 75%) did not significantly affect to the growth and crop of lettuce, and unable to control the weeds population.
