Abstract

Creative thinking ability is an essential component in mathematic learning that can be useful in problem solving. This study aimed to determine students' mathematical creative thinking ability in solving mathematical problems and self confidence on the material of two variables linear equations system. This research used descriptive qualitative research method. Subjects in this study were students of class VIII A at SMP Negeri 1 Bobotsari. For the selection of subjects, the researcher used student achievement by using final test score of odd semester in academic year 2017/2018 by obtaining 3 students for high achievement group, 3 students for medium achievement group and 3 students for low achievement group. Data analysis technique employed covering data reduction, data display, and verification. Test, interview, and documentation were used as data collecting Instruments. Research findings illustrated that the group of students with high achievement was able to master four indicators of mathematical creative thinking ability; i.e fluent thinking, flexible, original, had elaboration ability, and high self confidence. The group of students with medium achievement was able to master three indicators of mathematical creative thinking ability; i.e fluent thinking, flexible, elaboration ability, and high self confidence. Meanwhile, the group of students with low achievement was able to master two indicators of mathematical creative thinking ability; i.e original thinking and elaboration ability and also had quite self confidence.
