Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out the effectiveness of pictures to teach speaking describing people. This research used quasi experimental. The eight A class was the experimental group consisted of 31 students. The eight B class was used as control group consisted of 31 students. Moreover, picture was used to teach students in experimental group whereas in control group was not given any special treatment. The test that used in collecting data of this research, namely pre-test and post-test. The type test that the students had to compose the sentences orally. The data calculation showed that there were a positive result of teaching speaking using pictures. The result can be seen that t-test was higher compared to t-table. The result was at about 4.36 and the result of t-table at significant level (α) 0.05 with degree of freedom (d.f) 62 was 1.671. It meant that picture gave positive impact in teaching speaking.
