Abstract

Self-medication is a person effort to reduce a light symptom without doctor prescription. Prevalence of self-medication in Indonesia in 2013 was 63, 13% and in Central Java Province was 57, 45%. The behavior of self-medication might be influenced by people’s perception of medicine advertisement in television. The aim of this study was to analyze people’s perception of cough medicine advertisement in television, the people’s behavior of self-medication, and the correlation of people’s perception of cough medicine advertisement in television and the people’s behavior of self-medication in Banyumas regency. This research was an analytic study with cross sectional design. Multistage sampling was used in determining sample. In taking the sample, researcher used accidental sampling. In getting the data, researcher applied questionnaire. The result of the study shows that people who have good self-medication perception is 86%, good behavior of self-medication is 88%. Based on correlation analysis using Lambda test, the p value 0, 0003 < 0, 05 represents that there is a correlation between people perception to the cough medicine advertisement in television and self-medication behavior. The correlation value 0, 714 indicates that it has average correlation. The conclusion of the study is that most of the respondents have good perception to the cough medicine advertisement in television and good behavior of self-medication. There is a correlation between people perception to the cough medicine in television and people self-medication in Banyumas regency.
