Abstract

Curcuminoid gel formulation has been studied as antiacne and antibacterial activity againt Staphylococcus aureus. The purpose of this research was to create a gel formula and test the physical characteristic of curcuminoid and antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. This study used four formula with two bases of CMC Na and Carbopol. The first and second formula as a negatif control containing only the base of CMC Na and Carbopol base, third contains the base of CMC Na and the active substance of Curcuminoid, and fourth formula contains of Carbopol base and the active substance of Curcuminoid. The positif control using Clindamycin gel l%. Gel was tested physical characteristic including: Organoleptic, pH, and Viscosity. The study of antibacterial activity was done by diffusion method. Viscosity data was analyzed using two-ways of ANAVA with 95% of confidence level. While for antibacterial activity data was analyzed using one-ways ANAVA with 95% of believable level. The result showed that curcuminoid gel didn’t has an antibacterial activity, so that the test was done on the antibacterial activity against tumeric extract for about 7%. The result showed that gel on the base of CMC Na had a great power to inhibit Staphylococcus aureus.
