Abstract

The research was conducted to measure the effectiveness of chain story game in teaching descriptive writing. The population of the research was all of the students at the seventh graders of State Junior High School 8 Purwokerto. The total of the population was 268 students. The purposive sampling was used to take the sample of the research. There were two classes as research participants; Class VII D as the control class and class VII B as the experimental class. The research was conducted from June 7 to 20, 2014. There was treatment in the experimental class that was taught by using chain story game. On the other hand, the teaching writing in the control class used a conventional way. Pre-test was given to know the early competence of the participants in the writing skill. There was post-test after the treatment was given. The result of t-test calculation was 3.970 while ttable value at the level of significance α = 0.05 for degree of freedom (df) = 65 was 1.669. It meant that t-test was higher than t-table (3.970 > 1.669). Based on the previous description, it could be concluded that Chain Story Game was effective for teaching writing.
