Abstract

The aim of this study was: to find out the correlation between students’ interest in English reading book and their writing ability. It used a correlation research which was conducted of the third semester students’ of English Departement of Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Muhammadiyah university of Purwokerto in academic year 2013/2014. The research method was Correlation study. The writer used random sampling to get the sample. The technique of collecting the data was taken from Writing Test, and students’ reading interest questionnaire. After the data collected, the writing test and questionnaire result was analyzed by Pearson product moment correlation formula, and then made conclusion. The result of this study showed that there was a correlation between students’ writing ability and reading English interest. The student’ ability of writing descriptive text was in good category. The result of Pearson product moment test proved the correlation between students writing ability and students reading interest in reading English book. The result of computation showed that r0 was higher than r table (0.412 > 0.374) in the level degree of significance 5%. It meant that the correlation of students writing ability and their reading English book interest belong to moderate. The research could be concluded that there was correlation between students reading interest of English book and their writing ability.
