Abstract

Background : Dandruff is a minor symptom but if left treatment can causes
dermatitis seborrhoic of the scalp. Appropiate selection of chemistry material
which have antifungal activity as selenium sulfida, zinc pirition, ketokonazol are
just control amount of dandruff and adverse effects. The green tea contain
polifenol such as catechins were shown to inhibit the growth of P. ovale.
Catechins in black tea fewer in number compared with green tea because it is
oxidized to theaflavins and thearubigin.
Objective : The research purpose was to comparing antifungal activity of shampo
and extract from green tea and black tea, to deciding concentration of extract
which have effective activity, and to examining phyisical characteristic of
shampo.
Research Methods : Method of this study is to test the activity of tea shampoos
and extracts of black and green tea in various concentrations on the growth of the
fungus P. ovale, testing the physical properties of shampoo that includes
organoleptic, measurement of pH, viscosity and stability of the foam.
Results : The physical characteristic of shampo such as organoleptis, pH,
viscosity and foam stability. Fourth week observtation organoleptis and pH not
changing indicate. The vicsosity of shampo reduce but not significancy. The
stability foam is reduce up to minute seventh. The antifungal activity of green tea
have inhibition zone rate higher than black tea. The concentration of green tea
extract which most effective is 10 mg/mL with the inhibition zone 11,63 mm. The
concentration of shampo green tea shampo which most effective is 5 mg/mL with
the inhibition zone 11,40 mm. Antifungal activity of green tea is better than black
tea because of the catechins contained intact as shown in the results of TLC.
Conclusion : The physical characteristic of shampo which have observed have an
stability up to fourth week. The antifungal activity of green tea is better than black
tea.
