Abstract
Background: One of the common health problems that society is an infection.
Infections caused by pathogenic microorganisms, such as Staphylococcus aureus
and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Many constraints induced synthesis of drugs such
as the high price of drugs and the occurrence of resistance when its not
appropriate used to make use of medicines derived from natural start exhumed.
One of the plants used as medicine is Ocimum basilicum that will be developed in
pharmaceutical preparations which may facilitate its use in the form of cream
preparation.
Objective: This study aims to determine whether the extract of Ocimum basilicum
can be formulated in good cream, as well as determine the effect of Ocimum
basilicum extract cream formulations on the effectiveness of the antibacterial
Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Methodology: This study was an experimental study. By examining the ethanol
extract of Ocimum basilicum with various concentrations on the growth of
Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa in cream then compare the
antibacterial power based on the variation of concentration. All conditions are
created equal treatment, to determine its antibacterial power.
Result:Ocimum basilicum extract can be formulated in cream is both physically
seen from the homogeneity tests, organoleptic, pH, viscosity, adhesion, and
dispersive power. Antibacterial test of cream Ocimum basilicum extract fo rall
concentrations cannot inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus while in
bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa contamination that can not be ascertained
whether Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria or inhibit other microorganisms.
Conclusion:Ocimum basilicum extract can be formulated in good physically
cream preparation and can not inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus
bacteria while in the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa contamination that can not
be ascertained whether Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria or inhibit other
microorganisms.
