Abstract

The aim of the research was to find out the effectiveness of the power of two to teaching simple paragraph writing at junior high school.This research was quasi experimental method. The population of this research was the second grade on second of the junior high schools in Cilongok which consists of 168 students. The students involved in the research were 56 students who were divided into two classes. The subjects of the research were class VIIIA with 28 students as experimental class and VIIIB with 28 students as control class.The technique of collecting the data was by using tests (pre-test and post-test). The type of the test was subjective test where the students had to write the simple paragraph.The data calculation showed that there was a positive impact of teaching simple paragraph writing. It can be seen from the mean score result of experimental class had impact or increased 9.35 point from the pre-test 61.13 to the post-test 74.48. whereas, the mean score in the control class had increased 6.59point from pre-test was 58.14to post-test was 64.73 and based on the result ofttest computation was 2.122, and t-table for df=54at the level of significance α=0.05 was 1.673. From this calculation, the t-test was higher than t-table (2.122>1.673). Thus, the hypothesis was accepted or it means that the power of two was effective in teaching writing particularly simple paragraph.
