Abstract

The aims of this research are: (1) to find out the students’ perception on picture story books of SMP N 2 Wangon, (2) to find out the students’ perception of the linguistic value, (3) to find out the students’ perception of the value of the story, (4) to find out the students’ perception of the value of illustrations. This research was descriptive. The data of the research were collected on June 20, 2012. The population of this research was the second grade students of SMP N 2 Wangon consisting of 244 students. This research took 25% as the sample from the total number of population randomly. The total of respondents were 60 students. The instrument of collecting the data was closed questionnaire. After the data were analyzed, the coefficient perception of students’ perception on picture story books of SMP N 2 Wangon in academic year 2011/ 2012 was found 4.104, and it belongs to very good perception. The students who had very good perception on picture story books were 41 students (4.001-5), and the students who had good perception on picture story books were 19 students (3.001-4). It could be said that most of the students had positive perception on picture story books. There were three aspects in picture story books, they are 1) the linguistic value, it had coefficient perception 3.83. It belongs to a good perception. The indicators which were in the linguistic value are vocabulary and sentence. The coefficient perception of vocabulary is 4.3. It belongs to category very good, while sentence had coefficient perception 3.35. It belongs to category good; 2) the value of the story, it had coefficient perception 4.31. It belongs to very good peception. The indicators which were in the value of the story are interest, culture, and moral. The coefficient perception of interest is 4.25. It belongs to category very good. The coefficient perception of culture is 4.22. It belongs to category very good, while coefficient perception of moral is 4.43. It belongs to category very good; 3) the value of illustrations, it had coefficient perception 4.07. It belongs to very good perception. The indicators which were in the value of illustrations are pleasure, motivation, and facilitating learning. The coefficient perception of pleasure is 3.96. It belongs to category good, coefficient perception of motivation is 3.98. It belongs to category good, while coefficient perception of facilitating learning is 4.31. It belongs to category very good.
