The mangosteen rind (Garcinia mangostana L) have a violet colour which
indicates a natural dye. One of flavonoid compounds contained in the mangosteen
rind is anthocyanin, which known as natural antioxidant, so it can protect the lip
from environment which can damage the lip, such as ultraviolet light and free
radical, so anthocyanin make the lip more beautiful and healthy. The purpose of
research is to make lipstick formulation of mangosteen rind extract, and examine
the physical properties and compare the antioxidant activity of mangosteen rind
extract with lipstick formulation of mangosteen rind extract. The method is
experimental with a one shoot case study plan with measure the antioxidant
activity of mangosteen rind extract and lipstick formulation of mangosteen rind
extract. The results, lipstick formulation of mangosteen rind extract is stable, the
formulation lipstick have a homogeneous colour, with pH of 4 gram consentration
is 4, pH of 6 gram and 8 gram is 6, the melting point is between 56 -60ºC. Free
radical activity in mangosteen rind extract is greater than formulation lipstick of
mangosteen rind extract, at 14,267 ppm so it have strong IC50 values.
