Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of Think Pair Share for teaching speaking to the seventh grade of SMPN 2 Sumbang in Academic Year of 2011/2012. The population of this research was the seventh grade of SMPN 2 Sumbang, Purwokerto. The samples of this research were 62 students. The writer took two classes as the subjects of the research; those were class VII C as the experiment class and class VII D as the control one. The method used was experimental research. The treatment was carried out from 15th up to 28th of March 2012 at SMPN 2 Sumbang, Purwokerto. The writer used speaking tests in pre-test and post-test that consisted of 5 items test. In analyzing the data the writer used t-test. After the writer computed the t-test and compared it with t-table to find the effectiveness of TPS in teaching speaking, the writer got the result that t-test result (6.644) was higher than t-table (2.00) at d.f 60 (N1+N2-2). This means that the hypothesis was accepted and therefore Think Pair Share (TPS) was effective for teaching speaking at the seventh grade of SMPN 2 Sumbang, Purwokerto in academic year 2011/2012.
