Abstract

The aim of this study was to find out whether English songs were effective or not in teaching Simple Past Tense at SMK N 1 Kalibagor. The study was conducted from 1st until 25th of April 2013 at SMK N 1 Kalibagor. The experimental method was used in this study which involved two groups; one was control group consisting of 30 students, and the other was experimental group consisting of 28 students To the experimental group, treatments of teaching Simple Past Tense using English songs were given. In collecting the data, test and questionnaire were used as the instrument to be compared to the control group. After analyzing the data, it was found that there was a positive effect of teaching Simple Past Tense using English songs at SMK N 1 Kalibagor. It could be seen by the result of t-test computation was 2.975 and t-table using one-tail for df 56 was 1.673. So, the t-test result was higher than the value of t-table. It was also supported by the satisfying result of the questionnaire which showed the percentage for all of the indicators were above 75% and the average was 81.43%. It could be concluded that English songs was effective to teach Simple Past Tense.
