Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of English diary for teaching writing of recount text. This research was conducted at MTs Negeri Bobotsari in academic years 2011/ 2012. The treatment was carried out in 11th until 22nd of September 2011. The total sample of this research was 60 respondents. The respondents were divided into control class and experiment class. The technique of collecting the data used tests. Those were pre-test and post-test. The test was given for control and experimental class. Based on the result it was concluded that English diary was effective for teaching writing of recount text was accepted. It could be seen from the students’ writing ability of experiment class. It could also be proved by the result of t-test which was 2.635 and the value of t-table with degree of freedom 50 was 1.671. Then, the writer consulted that the result was obtained with the t-test and it was higher than t-table (2.635>1.671). Thus, it could be concluded that the hypothesis which said English diary was effective for teaching writing of recount text at the second grade students of MTs Negeri Bobotsari was accepted.
