Abstract

This research was aimed at improving students’ English vocabulary through guessing words. The treatment was carried out from October 26th, 2012 to November 23rd, 2012 at SDN 3 Sokaraja Kulon. The subject of this research was 18. The method used CAR. The data were collected through test, observation, field notes and questionnaire. To perfom this research, the researcher worked collaboratively with English teacher in that class. This research took two cycles with two actions in each cycle. Each cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. Based on the data analysis, it could be proved that the use of Guessing Words as the game can improve students’ vocabulary mastery. It could be seen from the result of students improvement at the end of Cycle 2. The improvement of the test result was 22.2% and it has reached the indicator of success (20%). The indicator of students’ observation proved 31.32% from the action in Cycle 1 and Cycle 2. The result of the field notes showed that the research in Cycle 2 was better than the research Cycle 1. Moreover, the questionnaire result showed positive response. In short, Guessing Words was able to improve students vocabulary.
