Abstract

This research belonged to descriptive research which aimed to know the students‟ grammatical prolems in writing recount text made by the second grade students of SMAN 3 Purwokerto in academic year 2013/2014. This research was conducted in April 2014. The subject of this research was the second grade students of SMAN 3 Purwokerto in academic year 2013/2014. The writer took 15% or 44 students from 295 of sample population. It was taken by using random sampling technique. The writer used an essay test to know the grammatical problem made by students in recount text. The result of this research showed that the mean of students‟ achievements was in good category. It was proved by 77 as the avarage of students‟ competence. The error devided into four classificasion for analysing grammatical problems in writing recount text those are sentence pattern, tenses, pronoun, and preposition. The grammatical problems made by students in writing recount text were sentence pattern (16%), tenses (74%), pronoun (4%), and preposition (6%). The highest rank or the major of grammatical problems were made by students was tenses followed by sentence pattern, preposition and pronoun.
