Hypertension is a state of the heart and blood vessels that is characterized by
increased blood pressure. Hypertension is often described as a silent killer, or a
disease that can cause death without the symptoms in advance as a warning
victims. This research was conducted with the aim to identify the use of traditional
medicine, the factors that influence the use of drugs in hypertensive patients, and
potential drug interactions that result from the use of antihypertensive drugs
along with traditional medicine. This research is a qualitative descriptive study
research design was a prospective study. Determination of the sample using
purposive sampling technique. The technique of collecting data using
questionnaires. The sample size used by 45 respondents. The results showed as
much as 19 respondents (42.2%) use traditional medicine and traditional
medicine most used are cucumbers by 14 respondents (73.6%). There are several
forms of treatment used is stew, brew, juice. The reason that most states use
traditional medicine is that it can help lower blood pressure. Potential drug
interactions that occurred between the drug furosemide with which lowers serum
potassium noni and noni are candensartan with increasing serum potassium. It
was concluded that patients with hypertension trust traditional medicine can help
lower blood pressure, the potential interactions that occur as a result of the joint
use and the factors that influence the use of hypertension drugs include sex, age,
education, occupation, and comorbidities.
