Abstract

The main purpose of this research was to find out the effectiveness of the storytelling technique to teach English vocabulary of second grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah1 Sokaraja in academic year 2014/2015. This research was experimental research. 25 Students of XIA were assigned to the experimental class where Storytelling technique implemented and 25 students of XIB to the control class was taught by conventional technique. In collecting the data, pre-test and the post-test were used to find out the effect of the treatment that given to experimental class and control class. 30 multiple choice items for the pre-test and the post-test were made to measure students’ vocabulary ability. In analyzing the data, t-test was used to obtain the result of the treatment. Based on the computation, the result of t-test was 3.548 while the value of t-table was 1.667 with df=48. It means that the t-test was higher than the value of t-table (3.548>1.667) which showed that hypothesis made was acceptable. Thus, it can be concluded that Storytelling technique was effective to teach students English vocabulary
