Abstract
The development of learning method could assist teacher alternatives displaying material in a more effective way by Inquiring and Problem Based Learning. This research is aimed (1) to know the influence of Inquiry method of writing news text ability (2) to find out the influence of Problem Based Learning (PBL) method to writing news text ability. (3) To find out more influencing method between Inquiry and Problem Based Learning method to the ability of writing news text for the 8th grade student of MTs Maarif NU I Purwokerto Barat. This study is an experimental research using pretest – posttest control group design. The population of the study is all grade 8th student of MTs Maarif NU I Purwokerto Barat in the academic year of 2016 – 2017. The number of population is 86 students comprising in 3 classes. The sample of study is students from class 8.A and 8.B. the classes that were treated using Inquiry method are 30 students, while the other classes were treated using PBL with the number as many as 28 students. The sampling technique used in this study is cluster random sampling. The data collection uses test instrument. The data analysis technique uses paired t test and independent ttest. Based on the statistical analysis paired t test, the Inquiry method gives more effect to writing on news text ability the value of tcount is 26.116 while the value of t table is 2.045. Thus, the value of tcount is higher than the value of ttable. PBL method gives more effect to writing on news text ability with the value of t count is 8.021 while the value of ttable is 2.052. Thus, the value of tcount is higher than the value of ttable. Based on the statistical analysis independent ttest. The value of tcount is 2.458 while the value of ttable is 2.000 with the significance of 95% (a=0, 05) Thus, the value of tcount is higher than the value of ttable. It means that Inquiry method gives more effect to writing on news text ability than PBL method to students of 8th grade in MTs Maarif NU I Purwokerto Barat. The study shows that the average score of writing news text ability for the fable text of the treated class using inquiry method is 66.6 and the treated class using PBL method is 58.4.
