Abstract

This research was to find out the effectiveness of index card match technique for teaching reading comprehension. This research was conducted the first grade students of SMP N 1 Ajibarang in academic year 2013-2014. The total sample 64 students. The students were divided into two classes, VIIA and VIIB. VIIA was as the experimental class that is taught by index card match and VIIB was as control that is taught common technique. The instruments were tests which were divided into pre test and post test, which was in the form of multiple choices. Pre-test was given before the treatment was done and post-test after the treatment was done. Based on the result, it was found that index card match technique was effective for teaching reading comprehension, it can be seen by the result that t-test was 7.585 while the value of t-table was 1.669 with df = 62. Then, the calculation of t-test was higher than t-table (7.585 > 1.669). Finally, the hypothesis of this research than index card match is effective to teach reading comprehension was accepted.
