Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of Memory in Note Dictionary (MiND) for teaching vocabulary. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 3 Cilacap in academic year 2015/2016. This research used quasi experimental research with thirty students of class VIII D as experimental group and class VIII A as control group. MiND was used as a treatment in experimental group while control group was not given MiND as a treatment. The treatment of this research was carried out in 12th of April until 14th of May 2016. The test was used to collect data, those were pre-test and posttest. The test was related to related to vocabulary knowledge. The test consisted of multiple choice, matching, and scrambled words. After data was collected, then it was analyzed using t-test formula, the result was 2.070 while the t-table scores at the significant level for df (degree of freedom) = 58 was 1.672. Thus the t-test value was higher than t-table (2.070 > 1.672). It means that the hypothesis which stated that Memory in Note Dictionary (MiND) was effective to teach vocabulary of eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Cilacap in academic year 2015/2016 was accepted.
