Abstract

The aim of this research was to understand and know more detail between what the English teachers can do and cannot do during teaching learning process. The method that was used in this research is descriptive method. The population of this research was three English teachers in SMP Negeri 1 Padamara. The researcher used total sampling technique to take the sample of the research. The data were obtained through interview and observation. Based on the results from both instruments of the research, there were three points to consider in teaching English: 1) Selecting challenging classroom activities is one of many strategies which can accommodate the students to be active; 2) The media of learning should be interesting and appropriate to the students‟ need in learning English; 3) The teachers should be attentive in managing their attitude and behavior in teaching; 4) Another point to consider is a good arrangement of questions posed by the teachers will make the students understand what they have to achieve. Moreover, there are also three points which should be avoided in teaching English: 1) The teachers should not make the students afraid only because the students passive in the classroom; 2) Using media of learning without involving the students during the learning process will not be effective to make the students understand the material; 3) The teachers do not judge the students if they make a mistake; 4) do not let the students in confusion during the process of understanding the material.
