Abstract

The aims of the research were to know (1) the student’s ability of constructing yes-no question of SMP N 3 Banyumas, (2) the level of the errors made by the students when constructing yes-no question. The contributions of the research were (1) to give information to the readers about the students error in making yes-no question and it will inform them how far the students mastery in making yes-no question, (2) to make the students able to construct yes-no question. The method used in this research was descriptive method. The first grade students from nine classes of SMP N 3 Banyumas were determined as population. The total population was 288. The sample was 90 students. After conducting the research, it revealed that the students’ mastery of yes-no question at the first grade students of SMP N 3 Banyumas was in good category. It was found that the classical students mastery was 65.94 %. It could be seen that firstly, students who got very good score was 21.1%, secondly, students who got good score was 38.9%, thirdly, 33.3% got fair score. Fourthly, 6.7% students got bad score, and lastly the students who got very bad score was 0%.
