Abstract

In this modern era, most development of multip-urposes buildings uses more concrete in the constructions than steel. The benefits of steel constructions are the higher tensile strength and the faster working period. However, many engineers still prefer concrete to steel in the building constructions, especially in Indonesia. Based on the concern, an analysis of beam and column redesign of Engineering Faculty building at Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto using Steel profile was carried out. The analysis was done using SAP 2000 program and manual computation using Ms. Excel program to figure out the dimension of beam and column structure of the building with steel profile, to know the safe steel dimension after the calculation moment and force inside the beam and column structure of the building, and to know the cost difference of steel profile column and beam structure compared to the concrete with more efficient price. Based on the results and discussions of the redesign analysis, it was obtained column and beam profile to use based on calculation as follows B1 : WF 300x150x6,5x9, B2 : WF 350x175x7x11 B3 : WF 300x150x6,5x9, B4 and B5 : WF 150x75x5x7, K1 : WF 500x200x10x 16, K2 : WF 450x200x9x14, K3 : WF 400x200x8x13, all profiles are safe in terms of moment, shift, and elasticity. In addition, the total calculation of structure showed big difference of IDR 1.610.042.693, which indicated that use of steel profile was less efficient.
