Abstract

The innapropriate use of medicine from its obtaining, use and store is due to the low level of knowledge among the people. That is why they need to be educated on the issue. The study was conducted to improve the knowledge of the college students’ of non-health department on the right ways to get, to use and to store the medicine as well as to dispose them, and also to measure the difference of their knowledge after they were given education via messenger media of WhatsApp and LINE. This was a cross-sectional study with a one-group pretest-posttest design to find out the knowledge improvement of the respondents. The sampling was accidental sampling. The mean of the scores among the WhatsApp group was 14.42 after the treatment; it was higher than before it, 10.51. Meanwhile the mean of the scores among the LINE group was 13.45 after the treatment; it was higher than before it, 10.81. To see its effectiveness of the two groups, it was compared and found that their difference was 0.03 (p > 0.05), meaning there was significant difference. It can be concluded that there is a significant improvement of knowledge on the medicine use and handling after the treatment among the respondents. It is also proved that WhatsApp is more effective than Line to be used as a media for educating the community, in this case the college students.
