Abstract

This research aimed to describe types of teacher's directive speech acts in the instruction of Indonesian Language Subject for Grade VII at SMP Negeri 3 Kedungreja Cilacap Regency in 2017. This research belong to descriptive qualitative research. The data of this research were teacher's speech acts. The source of the data was the teacher of Bahasa Indonesia. Methods and techniques of data collection used in this research were observation method, Involved Conversation Observation Technique (SBLC), tapping technique, and writing technique. The data were analyzed using pragmatic identity method with interlocutor as the determinant device. The basic technique used was determinant sorting technique (PUP) with correlation of the equalizing technique (HBS) as the advance technique. The data were presented using informal method. Based on the result of the analysis, the researcher concluded that in giving instruction teacher at SMP Negeri 3 Kedungreja Cilacap Regency used the following directive speech acts: requesting, inviting, asking, commanding, requiring, prohibiting, allowing, suggesting, and advising. Those directive speech acts were related to students' attitude in responding teacher's speech. Through those students' responses, it can be recognized that the teacher had various basic teaching skills in the opening activity, whilst teaching, and closing of the instruction.
