Abstract

Biodiesel is one of the renewable and eco-friendly alternative fuels. Biodiesel as bioenergy or biofuel is made of, both new and waste ones, vegetable oil that belongs to mono alkyl ester or methyl ester group through trans-esterification process. The purposes of this study were: (1) to find out the most influential variable in the manufacture of biodiesel from wasted cooking oil by using Dry- Wash method and magnesium silicate (magnesol) adsorbent. Variables studied were the percentage of magnesol, time of stirring, and speed of stirring in the process of purification of biodiesel. And it was found that the percentage of magnesol was the most influential variable; (2) to determine the purity and characteristics of biodiesel produced from the most influential variables in the process of washing biodiesel by using Dry-Wash method and magnesol adsorbent that were: density, acid value, and the levels of soap that was 878 kg/m3, 0336 mg- NaOH/gram of biodiesel, and 1824 ppm respectively; (3) To discover whether the result of the analysis of biodiesel washed by employing the adsorbent fulfilled Indonesian feasibility standards of biodiesel (SNI 7182-2015). From the results of this research, it can be concluded that the greater the amount of magnesium silicate used in purifying biodiesel, the more organic substance are adsorbed, so that organic substance such as number of acids and soap levels produced is smaller, used and the biodiesel produced is purer
