Abstract
The objective of the research was to construct the description of students mathematical communication ability in VII G SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto, seen from personality type in refer to David Keirsley. The research was descriptive qualitative with purposive sampling method for subject selection. There were four types of student personality: guardian, artisan, rational and idealist. Researcher took two respondents for each personality type. Research instrument used were personality type grouping, mathematical communication ability examination, and interview guideline. Data analysis technique used were data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion creation. The results indicated that: 1) guardian personality type was able to express mathematical ideas in solving problem, able to express daily activity in mathematical language and symbol, and able to explain an idea, concept or mathematical symbols in writing. 2) artisan personality type was able to express mathematical ideas in solving problem, able to express daily activity in mathematical language and symbol, however less able to explain an idea, concept or mathematical symbols in writing. 3) rational personality type was able to express mathematical ideas in solving problem, able to express daily activity in mathematical language and symbol, and able to explain an idea, concept or mathematical symbols in writing. 4) idealist personality type was able to express mathematical ideas in solving problem, able to express daily activity in mathematical language and symbol, and able to explain an idea, concept or mathematical symbols in writing.
