Abstract

The number of dengue fever cases in Indonesia is increasing every year. The number of DBD cases from 1968 was 58 cases to 126,675 cases by 2015. So that handling is needed to control the vector of the disease with a more environmentally friendly method that is by using essential oil of cosmos leaves (Cosmos caudatus). The aim of this research is to determine the activity of mosquito repellent on the oil of cosmos leaves (Cosmos caudatus) in killing Aedes aegypti mosquito by spray method and determining the content contained in the essential oil of cosmos (Cosmos caudatus) that can kill Aedes aegypti mosquito. This study used the concentration of essential oil 10, 13,1, 17,1, 22,4 and 29,3%. The results showed that the oil of kenikir Leaves had activity to Aedes aegypti mosquito death with spray method with percentage of mosquito mortality by 90% at 29.3% concentration and based on GC-MS test of essential oil derived from the cosmos (Cosmos caudatus) plant 5 compounds that have the highest peaks. There are known compounds of beta ocimene, 1,3,8-p-methatriene, beta caryophyllen, germacrene d. And 1,4-cyclohexadiene, 3-ethenyl-1,2-dimethyl-.
