Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of TPS method in teaching reading in first grade students of SMP N 1 Padamara. The researcher choose two classes were chosen VII G as the experimental class and VII H as control class. The researcher use pre-test and post-test to find the data. The test was in multiple-choice forms consisting of 20 items for each test. T-test formula was used to analyze the data. The result of the research showed that there was significant difference of the students ability in mastering reading learningwho were taught using TPS method and who were without TPS method. It could be seen on the result of computation of test, where t-result was 4,3408 and t-table was 1,671 at the significant level α=0,05 in d.f=58. So the result was higher that t-table (4,3408>1,671). It means that the hypothesis about teaching reading comprehension using TPS method on first grade students of SMP N 1 Padamara is effective.
