Abstract

Teachers need to focus on meeting the diversity of students in the heterogeneous classroom. Students have different variety of learning and individualized and differentiated instructions can be used by the teachers to deal with that. Individualized instructions start with the needs of one students and differentiated instructions focus on flexible group of students. The aims of this study were to portrait how teachers implement individualized and differentiated instructions in EFL classes and to determine whether individualized and differentiated instruction are different. The study employed a descriptive study method. The research was carried out in a public Junior High School in Purwokerto with two English teachers in seventh grade as the samples of research. Total sampling technique was used to set out examples of population and data was obtained from teachers using observation and interview. Results showed that both the teachers’ instructions in the beginning was for the whole class and individualized and differentiated instructions had implemented for students activities in doing exercise. Furthermore, individualized and differentiated instructions can be conducted at one time.
