Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out whether there is positive effect of story telling as the media in teaching reading for junior high school students or not. This method used in this research was experimental study. The population of this research was the second year students of SMP N 1 Mandiraja in academic year 2009/2010. The writer took 72 sample as the subject. In collecting the data the writer used test as an instrument. The writer analyzed the data using t-test. After the data has been analyzed, it was found that the t-test result was 4.18 and the t-test table was 1.994 in df = 70 at the level significance is 5%. Thus, t-test was higher than t-table ( 4.18 > 1.994 ), so story telling was effective as the media for teaching reading.
