Abstract

This study aimed determine whether there is a relationship: (1) mastery of figurative language with the ability to appreciate poetry, (2) interest in reading poetry with the ability to appreciate poetry, and (3) mastery of figurative languange and interest in reading poetry with the ability to appreciate. This research was conducted in SD Gugus Jendral Sudirman, the academic year 2016/2017. The research method use is descriptive correlation. This study population is grader Vth SDN Gugus Jendral Sudirman. Sample of 50 students‟ were selected by random sampling. Instrument to collect data the test‟s ability to appreciate poetry, figurative languange proficiency test‟s, and questionnaires interest in reading poetry. The analysis technique used is the technique of simple correlation statistic and correlation doble. The result of the analysis showed that the: (1) the reliationship between mastery of figurative language and interest in reading poetry quite satisfactory (r-count 0,489), (2) variable mastery language figurative partially significantly influence variable ability appreciates the poems (t-count 5,068 > t-table 2,010), (3) variable interest in reading poetry partially significant effect on the variable ability to appreciate poetry (t-count 3,369 > ttable 2,010). From data analysis showed that mastery of figurative language has a better reliationship with the ability to appreciate poetry compare with interest in reading poetry.
