Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the effetiveness of Chain Story Game in teaching speaking. This reasearch used quasi experimental method in which the population of the research was the students of the eighth grade in SMP Negeri 1 Jatilawang. The total sample of the research was 68 students, and they were from class VIII C as the experimental group with 34 students and class VIII A as the control group with 34 students. Chain story game was implemented in experimental group, while the control group was treated with conventional technique of teaching. The test was used to collecting data of this research, namely pre-test and post-test. The type of the test was subjective test where the students had to compose the sentences orally. The data calculation showed that there were a positive impact of teaching speaking as a result of chain story game. This can be seen form t-test which was higher than t-table. The result was at about 2.92 and the result of t-table at significant level (α) 0.05 with degree of freedom (d.f) 66 was 1.668. Based on the result of the research, it can be conluded that chain story game was effective for teaching speaking.
