Abstract

Th is research has two pri nciple obj ectives: 1) to find out the average eight g rade students‟ reading age and 2) to know the compatibility of the reading age with their grade. To achieve these obj ective s, 40 ei gh th grade Junior high school students from 4 different Junior High Schools p articipated in th is st udy. This research used quantitative method using test. The test used was made by Schonell namely Sconell Reading Age Test. The resu lts showed tha t 57.5% of the students ar e on Level 15 which they are supposed to be in and 42.5% students are on the lower level. The average reading age was 12.5 where it was on Level 14 a level lower than standard level for eight grader. The average eight grader CA was 13 to 14 years old, in this research the average CA was 13.5. The compatibility between the reading age with their grade was not good because there was a significance difference.
