The use of Kenanga essential oil as an antibacterial done in various ways,
one of them is essential oils addition into the liquid bath soap formulations. For
more practical use, easier to carry, stored, not easily damaged and get dirty, and
more attractive form than other soaps. The aimed of the study to compare the
physical characteristic of liquid soap based on various KOH concentration (KOH
12%, KOH 14%, KOH 16%) and determine the antibacterial activity of Kenanga
(Cananga odorata (LAM.) Hook.f & Thoms) essential oils on any liquid bath soap
formulation. The study method is purely experimental. The distillation process of
Kenanga essential oil using steam and water distillation. Concentration of
essential oils were used in liquid bath soap preparation was 20%, as an active
substance can inhibits the antibacterial activity of Staphylococcus aureus. The
results of this study to show presence various KOH concentration that can affect
the physical characteristic of liquid bath soap, and the addition of Kenanga
essential oil 20% concentration has no effect on the bacteria Staphylococcus
aureus.
