Abstract

AN ANALYSIS OF SUBSTANCE LEVEL AND CHEMICAL COMPOUND OF POWDER CLAMSHELL (Geloina sp.) AS THE PEOPLE’S CATCHES IN BULUPAYUNG CILACAP SERAYU RIVER Satria Ramadhan Abstract To manage the cockle shells, it commonly affects in the abundant number of shells. The people in Bulupayung village ussually threw powder clamshell (Geloina sp.) to the river. It lead to waste powder clamshell (Geloina sp.) scattered and piled up around Serayu riverbanks without optimally utilized. The use of shells can optimally be conducted by utilizing the nutrients contained in the shells as a source of mineral elements and natural chemical compounds in a variety of products, so it can increase the as the added value. This study aimed to determine the levels of elements and chemical compounds waste Powder Clamshells (Geloina sp.) caught by Bulupayung people Serayu River Cilacap. The design or approach in this study was a qualitative. The study included into descriptive research. The method used in this study was a laboratory. Activities applied during the study consisted of two activities, namely: 1) sample preparation and 2) analysis of substance elements and chemical compounds with Atomic Absorption Sp.ectrophotometer method (AAS). Analysis of the data in this study was a descriptive quantitative and qualitative. The results showed that the Powder Clamshell (Geloina sp.) had and average elements and chemical compounds contained were ash level (94,90%), Ca level (3,11%), Na level (0,48%), P level (not detected), and CaCO3 level (7,76%). Element and chemical compounds levels contained in the Powder Clamshell (Geloina sp.) had a great potential if it was used and treated as good as possible. It can be an alternative solution in the prevention of waste powder clamshell (Geloina sp.) untapped, furthermore it could be applied to the manufacture of products to give added value to support the economy of rural communities in Bulupayung Cilacap.
