Abstract

This research aimed to describe the students’ mathematical representation skill in solving open-ended questions viewed from their thinking style. The subjects of this research were class IX A students of SMP Negeri 3 Sumbang taken by using purposive sampling method. It was a results conclude that the mathematical representation skill of: (1) students with concrete sequential thinking style are more able to create and communicate their mathematical ideas through pictures, less able to create mathematical model from ideas, and quite able to use words or written texts; (2) students with abstract sequential thinking style are less able to create and communicate their mathematical ideas through pictures, able to create mathematical model from ideas, and quite able to use words or written texts; (3) students with random abstract thinking style are less able to create and communicate their mathematical ideas through pictures and create mathematical model from ideas, but quite able to use words or written text; (4) students with concrete random thinking style are quite able to create and communicate their mathematical ideas through pictures, not able to create mathematical model from ideas, and less able to use words or written texts.
