Abstract

The aim of this research was to know the effectiveness of using round robin technique in teaching listening. This research was conducted at the eleventh grade of MAN Purwokerto 1 in academic year 2014/2015. This research used experimental research. The total sample was 68 respondents. The writer took two classes as the sample; they were XI IPA 1 as experimental group and XI IPA 2 as control group. The data was collected on 1st until 30th of April 2015. In collecting data, the writer used test as the instrument. There were two tests. They were pre-test and post-test. The test was multiple choices. After getting the data, the writer computed the data using t-test formula and analyzed it. The result of the research showed that the students’ competence of experimental class was higher than that of the control class. It was seen from the students’ score in experimental class, the lowest score was 35 and the highest score was 85. The lowest score in control class was 35 and the highest score was 70. Then the t-test result was 3.96, and t-table was 1.67 in degree of freedom 66 (Nx + Ny – 2) at the significant level 0.05. The test result was higher than that of ttable (3.96 > 1.67). It means that hypothesis which stated that Round Robin technique is effective in teaching listening skill.
