Abstract

The main objective of the research was to improve the students‟ reading comprehension of X grade students in Vocational School of Banyumas using Numbered Heads Together technique. The participants of this research were 23 students of X grade students in Vocational School of Banyumas. This action research was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. In collecting data in reading test use the quantitative data, for observation, and questionnaire as qualitative data were used. To support the qualitative data, interview to the students was conducted to know the students‟ reading problems. The result of the research could be seen from the students‟ observation sheets that in cycle 1was 48.12% and in cycle 2 was 64.9%. The score result in pre test 60.43, in post test 1 was 82.60, and the last in post test 2 was 92.95. Based on the result of the test, it could be concluded that it reached the success indicator because the students reached KKM >85%. Further from the questionnaire sheet, 68.37% gave positive response to the implementation of Numbered Heads Together during the teaching and learning process. Based on the result of the research it could be concluded that the use of NHT technique could improve students‟ reading comprehension.
