Abstract

This research was aimed at finding out the effectiveness of Shopping Game in teaching English vocabulary. This research was conducted in SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Purwokerto in the academic year 2013/2014. This research was quasi experimental research. The students involved in this research were 60 students who were divided into two classes. VIII B as experimental class which was taught by Shopping Game and VIII C as control class which was taught without Shopping Game. The test was used in collecting the data of this research, namely pre-test and post-test. The test was given in the form of objective test (multiple choice), gap filling and jumbled words test. Based on the computation, t-test result was 2.049 and the result of t-table at the significant level 0.05 with the degree of freedom 58 is 1.672. The calculation of t-test obtained with t-table was concluded that t-test was higher than t-table (2.049>1.672). Based on the research result, it is showed that Shopping Game was effective to teach vocabulary at the second grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Purwokerto in academic year 2013/2014.
