Abstract

The research was to find out the effectiveness of comic strips to teach English vocabulary for tenth grade Senior High School students of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto. This research used the experimental method in which the subject was the tenth year students of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto in academic year 2013/2014 and class X-2 was the experimental class while class X-1 was the control class. In collecting the data, the writer used test which was done twice; before and after the treatments. The tests were in the form of multiple choices to know the students’ vocabulary mastery before and after the treatments. The treatments were implemented three times in November 2013. According to the data analysis, it was found that comic strip gave significant effect in teaching English vocabulary. T-test result was 5.47 which is higher than t-table 1.673. From this result, it can be concluded that the hypothesis that comic strip is effective to teach English vocabulary for the tenth year students of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto in academic year 2013/2014 is accepted.
